Modelling solute transport in soil columns using advective-dispersive equations with fractional spatial derivatives

چکیده
Solute transport in soils is commonly simulated with the advective-dispersive equation, or ADE. It has been reported that this model cannot take into account several important features of solute movement through soil. Recently, a new model has been suggested that results in a solute transport equation with fractional spatial derivatives, or FADE. We have assembled a database on published solute transport experiments in soil columns to test the new model. The FADE appears to be a useful generalization of

Modelling multiple solute transport in variably saturated soils
This paper presents two models typical of two different approaches often used for modelling the advective-dispersive transport of multiple ions in variably-saturated porous media. The first approach assumes that all solute reactions can be incorporated directly into the governing transport equations (the one-step method), while the second approach divides the mathematical solution process into ...
متن کاملPerspective on theories of non-Fickian transport in heterogeneous media
Subsurface fluid flow and solute transport take place in a multiscale heterogeneous environment. Neither these phenomena nor their host environment can be observed or described with certainty at all scales and locations of relevance. The resulting ambiguity has led to alternative conceptualizations of flow and transport and multiple ways of addressing their scale and space–time dependencies. We...
متن کاملAdvec ve – Dispersive Equa on with Spa al Frac onal Deriva ves Evaluated with Tracer Transport Data
242 A dispersion are considered to be the dominant mechanisms of solute transport in the vadose zone, i.e., the variably saturated layer of soils and sediments between the soil surface and groundwater table (Jury and Flühler, 1992). Advection is associated with the average water fl ux or velocity, whereas hydrodynamic dispersion is modeled using an analog of Fick’s law corresponding to the Brow...
متن کاملEstimation of zeolite application effect on solute transport parameters at different soils using HYDRUS-1D model
ABSTRACT-Application of models for simulation of solute and pollutants transport in soil can reduce time and costs for remediation process. HYDRUS-1D model was developed to simulate the one–dimensional flow of soil water, heat, solute and viruses in variably saturated–unsaturated porous media. The objective of this investigation is to determine the solute transport parameters in disturbed soil ...
متن کاملThe effect of solute size on diffusive-dispersive transport in porous media
The purpose of this work was to investigate the effect of solute size on diffusive-dispersive transport in porous media. Miscible displacement experiments were performed with tracers of various sizes (i.e. tritiated water (3H20), pentafluorobenzoate (PFBA), and 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D)) and a homogeneous, nonreactive sand for pore-water velocities varying by three orders of magnit...
